Guadalupe Acosta Naranjopresident of the political organization We are MXannounced that they will carry out a mobilization against the electoral reform that President Claudia Sheinbaum sent yesterday to the Chamber of Deputies and with which various modifications are proposed in the electoral process.
The former deputy and leader of the political organization indicated that with the mobilization they will seek to prevent the initiative from being approved and recalled the march of the so-called “Pink Tide”, which took place in August 2024, against underrepresentation in the National Electoral Institute (INE).
“If we organize and mobilize and do those mobilizations again that we did during the pink tide to defend the INE, to defend the judiciary, which we came out in hundreds of thousands throughout the country, if we do that, it will be our way of contributing to ensuring that this reform does not pass,” he said in an interview with the YouTube channel, Atypical Te Ve.
He stressed that the opposition must focus on “defeating plan A” of President Sheinbaum, referring to the electoral reform, and later plan B, after yesterday the president revealed that she has an additional strategy, to apply in case the current initiative is not approved.
“Then will come plan B, but right now we have to fight against plan A. Why do we fight against what does not exist at this moment? First we must defeat plan A, which is this constitutional reform that wants to perpetuate in power the political party that governs today forever,” he pointed out.
In its X account, the organization indicated that they plan to meet this Friday with the Broad Democratic Front (FAD) to agree on the actions surrounding the mobilization.
He revealed that the meeting will be this Friday, March 6 at the Expo Reforma, located in the Juárez neighborhood, Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, at 11:00 a.m.
“As we did with the #MareaPosa, we are going to mobilize against the #Maduro Law of @Claudiashein. In the Broad Democratic Front (FAD) we will agree on the actions next Friday the 6th at the Expo Reforma (Yacatecutli Hall) in CDMX at 11:00 a.m. The call is broad and plural,” he wrote on the social network.
Acosta Naranjo He accused that the proposed changes in the electoral reform seek to eliminate impartiality, increase legislative overrepresentation and weaken the structure of the autonomous bodies, pointing out that “it was an assault” and “they acted like pirates” during the previous electoral process.
He added that, if the reform is approved, it would no longer be necessary to reach a qualified two-thirds majority in Congress to modify the Constitution, which he considered a risk for democracy.
The leader called for the participation of all opposition political parties, including representatives of the BREAD, PRI and Citizen Movementas well as those who have resisted the changes in the democratic system.
“It is not Somos México that… no, we are part of a very plural, very diverse group and where everyone should fit in. I hope the political parties that are opposition also join in and are there. I hope that there can be representatives of the PAN and there can be representatives of the PRI and I hope that MC holds up and does it,” said Acosta Naranjo.
