The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, requested a prison sentence for José Eduardo Chala Franco, 56, who was identified as responsible for a traffic accident that left 11 injured.

According to investigations, Chalá Franco was driving a public transport car with registration number VDW 626. He was traveling at a speed higher than the permitted speed and had the highest level of alcohol intoxication when he lost control of the vehicle and ran over 11 people who were passing by a corner.

On Monday, November 10, The driver involved was transferred to a prison after admitting his responsibility for the crimes of attempted homicide and personal injury.
According to information provided by the Bogotá Traffic Police, the driver faces more than ten sanctions for different offenses, including driving exceeding the permitted speed, parking in unauthorized places and driving under the influence of alcohol.
After the accident, the driver was taken to the San Blas Hospital to receive an initial medical check-up. Later, specialists from the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences performed diagnostic tests and concluded, as reported by the Prosecutor’s Office, that he had level three blood alcohol while driving.
As a result of the incident, four minors were referred to receive medical attention at different health institutions. However, the condition of two of them – a seven-year-old boy and a fifteen-year-old teenager – remains serious, and they remain hospitalized at the Santa Clara Hospital.
