Many believers turn to the intercession of Saint Charbel when they face urgent situations, especially those related to health or personal protection.

Confidence in his powerful mediation before God is reflected in prayers that ask for help, comfort and strength in the most difficult moments, recognizing in him a source of relief and spiritual security.

Born in the village of Beqa-Kafra in 1828, Joseph Antoun Makhlouf grew up in a family of deeply devout Maronite farmers. Since his childhood, he showed a strong desire to get closer to God, choosing the solitude of a natural grotto to pray, far from the daily hustle and bustle. This habit of meditation was the prelude to a life marked by the search for holiness.

At the age of twenty-three, Joseph decided to leave home to enter the Monastery of Our Lady of Lebanon. Without means of transportation, he walked for hours to begin his novitiate. After completing his training, he joined the Maronite monks of the Monastery of Saint Maron in Annaya, adopting the name Charbel in honor of a 2nd century martyr who inspired him.

For almost 20 years, Saint Charbel dedicated himself to prayer, community work and silence. His austere life and spiritual connection caught the attention of those around him, who saw in him a special relationship with the divine. In 1965, Pope Paul VI beatified him, and two years later he was canonized as the country’s first saint.

Saint Charbel died on Christmas Eve 1898, after suffering from hemiplegia that affected one side of his body. After his death, stories multiplied about supposed miracles attributed to his intercession, especially in cases of physical and spiritual healing.

The prayer to Saint Charbel is usually carried out in quiet spaces and in solitude, seeking an environment conducive to meditation. It is recommended to ask with faith and perseverance, leaving personal and family needs in your hands.

In times of need, the faithful recite prayers such as the following:

“Oh! Holy Venerable. You, who spent your life in solitude, in a humble and retired hermitage. You who did not think about the world or its joys. You who are now seated at the right hand of God the Father. We ask you to intercede for us, so that He extends His blessed hand to us and helps us. Enlighten our minds. Increase our faith. Strengthen our will to continue our prayers and supplications before you and all the saints.”

Requests usually focus on the search for health, peace and forgiveness, as well as the desire to abandon evil and choose good. Many ask for “intercession at all times, especially at the hour of our death,” trusting that Saint Charbel will accompany those who invoke him until the end of life.

Contemporary devotion to Saint Charbel is kept alive through digital communities and portals that share prayers and testimonies of favors received. The portal ‘The Friends of Saint Charbel’ recommends praying with devotion and asking for what is needed, ensuring that “God heals the sick and restores reason to the disturbed. “That restores sight to the blind and movement to the paralyzed.”

In the words of the traditional prayer, those who trust in this saint are grateful for his help: “Saint Charbel, pray for us. Amen.”
