Centro Democrático spoke out against Miguel Uribe Londoño’s criticism of the election of his presidential candidate: “The rules have been clear”

In the midst of the controversy that broke out within the Democratic Center over the election of the presidential candidate for 2026, the community spoke out to defend the transparency and rigor carried out within the party.

The Democratic Center’s statement comes after the pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Londoño expressed his doubts with the mechanism, specifically with the possible hiring of the pollster Atlas Intel.

According to Uribe Londoño, the Brazilian company had already worked for a study that favors the senator and also the community’s pre-candidate, María Fernanda Cabal.

The businessman’s words unleashed the pronouncement of Gabriel Vallejo, director of the Democratic Center, as well as María Fernanda Cabal herself.

Now, the party itself pointed out that the community has always acted with “rigor,” “transparency” in its internal processes, stating that the election of its candidate will not be the exception.

“The Democratic Center has always acted with rigor, transparency and strict adherence to ethics in all its internal processes. The presidential candidate selection process is no exception,” indicated the Democratic Center.

The community specified that the rules have been clear and discussed with all members of the party, ensuring “fair competition.”

“The rules have been clear, socialized and our commitment has always been to fair competition.”“, an impeccable process and an election that represents the will of the citizens and the unity of the party,” the community stated.

According to the Democratic Center, the goal for 2026 is to defeat “the neo-communist project,” which, according to the party, has caused harm to Colombia.

“Our highest purpose is to defeat in 2026 the neo-communist project that has caused so much damage to the country and recover the institutional, economic and social course of Colombia,” stated the Democratic Center.

During an interview with Blu RadioUribe Londoño stated that he did not approve the minutes agreed upon in a meeting on August 22, in which María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia, Paola Holguín and Andrés Guerra participated. The politician reiterated his questions about the process and transparency in the selection of the pollster.

The controversy intensified within the Democratic Center after the selection of the Brazilian firm Atlas Internacional as responsible for the internal consultation.

Miguel Uribe Londoño expressed doubts about the reliability of the digital method proposed by Atlas Intel and its ability to guarantee auditable results, a situation that led the firm to withdraw from the process, he reported in his dialogue with Blu Radio. This decision left the party searching for a new mechanism to select its presidential candidate.

The candidate said: “I have proposed that voting intention be measured through mechanisms that are transparent, technical and clean.”

He argued that the digital methodology proposed by Atlas International does not reflect the real voting intention and requested that in-person methods be used.

“I have proposed several surveys, two or three, with equal conditions and then they are weighted. And with common sense, each survey must be in person, in homes, auditable, publishable and that complies with the laws in force in Colombia”he pointed out to the aforementioned media.

Uribe Londoño’s distancing from the rest of the pre-candidates was evidenced by his failure to sign the internal minutes, which contemplate former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez having influence in the final decision.

The candidate clarified that his decision seeks legitimacy in the process and in response to the accusation of the party director, Gabriel Vallejo, he denied having tried to hire the Brazilian firm. “It is not true that someone from our campaign tried to hire the firm Atlas Intel… “My advisors have had conversations with these and other survey companies because they do it regularly because it is their profession.”

Despite internal divisions, Miguel Uribe Londoño reiterated his confidence in the authority of the party leader by declaring: “I abide by the decision made by President Álvaro Uribe Vélez because I fully trust him,” he stated in his interview with Blu Radio. In addition, he confirmed that his only aspiration is the presidential candidacy.
