Zelensky says talks continue with US on possible peace agreement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said talks with the United States on a peace plan continued after a report suggesting that kyiv accepted the terms of a possible agreement to end Russia’s large-scale invasion.

“Communication with the American side continues,” Zelensky said in a post on X after a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday. “I am grateful for all the efforts of the US and, personally, for the efforts of President Trump”.

ABC News reported Tuesday, citing a U.S. official, that Ukraine agreed to a potential peace deal with some minor details to be worked out. There is speculation that a deal could be close after US President Donald Trump suggested in a social media post on Monday that “great progress” was being made on a deal for Ukraine.

Delegations from the US and Russia are meeting in Abu Dhabi following talks in Geneva over the weekend that made progress in defusing vehement opposition from kyiv and its European allies to a 28-point peace proposal that the White House team launched last week.
