YouTube has incorporated new functions based on artificial intelligence so that content creators Improve the quality of your videos, even if they were published years ago.
It is common to find old videos from our favorite creators that do not have good resolution and, when viewing them on devices such as televisions, the image quality is not optimal.
To solve this problem, YouTube has launched a feature that uses AI to automatically increase the resolution of videos.
Initially, it will focus on upscaling videos uploaded with quality lower than 1080p, transforming content from SD to HD, and in the future it hopes to enable upscaling up to 4K resolution.
The platform clarifies that creators will have full control over their library– The original files and initial resolution of each video will remain intact, and this enhancement can be disabled at any time.
Viewers will be able to choose between watching the video in its original resolution or using the super resolution feature, which will be clearly identified in the settings.
Separately, YouTube shared that it has begun testing larger video uploads with some creators to allow for even higher quality original uploads.
YouTube has added new features to improve the experience on televisions. Now viewers can explore their favorite channels with immersive previews on the home page, making it easy to discover and interact with new content.
Additionally, the new ‘Shows’ layout allows creators to organize their videos into collections ideal for binge-watching at home.
Searching for content on televisions has also been updated. When a user searches from a channel page, they will see that channel’s videos in the results first, rather than them mixed in with the rest of YouTube content.
Coming soon to shopping videos that include tagsusers will be able to scan a QR code from the screen to directly access the product page on their phone.
Likewise, the option to highlight products at key moments in the videos is being tested.
These improvements seek to simplify the process, capture the interest of viewers at the right time and make it easier for them to make purchases or actions inspired by the content, helping creators increase conversions and strengthen their brands, YouTube explains.
In the United States, televisions have established themselves as the primary device for watching YouTube in terms of viewing time.
According to platform data, Every day users watch more than 1 billion hours of content on televisions, confirming its importance in big screen entertainment. This trend has led YouTube to be considered the “new television,” in the words of its CEO, Neal Mohan.
Mohan points out that this “new” television is different from traditional televisionsince it is interactive and integrates formats such as Shorts (yes, they are even seen on television), podcasts and live broadcasts, in addition to sports, comedies and talk shows that already have a loyal audience.
The CEO stressed that, as content designed specifically for televisions grows, YouTube continues to improve the experience on these screens.
Among the innovations, the integration of a second screen stands out, allowing users to write comments or make purchases from a mobile device while watching videos on the television.
Additionally, Mohan revealed that they are developing a feature called Watch Withwhich will allow creators to comment and react live to events such as sports matches.
This tool began to be tested last year with the NFL and, in 2025, the tests will be expanded to other sports disciplines and types of content.
