Wilson Arias went against Katherine Miranda for criticizing agrarian jurisdiction: “She is now an ally of the landowners”

While the agrarian jurisdiction goes through its process in the Congress of the Republic, the senator of the Historical Pact and member of the Government coalition, Wilson Arias, criticized Katherine Miranda, representative to the Chamber for the Green Alliance party, for her position regarding the project. Arias stated that Miranda “now seems to be on the side of the landowners.”

Arias was referring to a publication by Katherine Miranda in X, made in August 2024, where she expressed her concern about the content of the project: “Today the Agrarian and Rural Jurisdiction bill is being filed, and, just as I feared, they want to include express expropriation, I open the thread,” wrote the representative of Alianza Verde.

In his message, Arias commented that Representative Miranda’s statements and actions favor sectors with large areas of land.

Arias reproached Miranda for disagreeing with proposals that, according to him, seek to strengthen the state’s capacity to recover lands that would have been misappropriated by private actors, and insisted that vacant lands should be allocated to those without land and not to those who concentrate them.

“Congresswoman Miranda is now an ally of the landowners. She is opposing giving the State tools to recover the lands that private parties stole from the State itself. Miranda, the vacant lands are for the landless people; not for the landowner hoarders,” the legislator belonging to the Sixth Commission of the Senate of the Republic wrote on his social network account X.

Along with his message in X, the senator from the Historical Pact shared a video in which he deepened his criticism of Katherine Miranda. In that recording, Arias accused the congresswoman of supporting the interests of those who concentrate land and of aligning herself with opposition political figures, while dismissing the arguments that Miranda has presented about agrarian jurisdiction.

“Katherine Miranda has already stripped all the copper. The congresswoman is now on the side of the land grabbers and usurpers. Recently, joining Paloma Valencia and Cabal, she has decided to say that agrarian jurisdiction is supposedly expropriation,” he commented.

Likewise, Arias denied that there is an expropriation policy in the agrarian jurisdiction project and detailed the scope of article nine.

Arias insisted that the true purpose is to restore the authority of the National Land Agency to recover state lands appropriated by private individuals, and he stressed that vacant lands should not benefit those who already concentrate large areas, but rather vulnerable sectors as indicated in the 1991 Constitution, according to his words.

“Congressman, what expropriation? What the ninth article of the agrarian jurisdiction seeks is to return to the National Land Agency the power it had to recover lands of the nation that were improperly appropriated by private agents. Vacant lands that have been stolen from the nation by large land grabbers,” Arias commented on the audiovisual footage.

And he added: “It is not expropriation, it is agrarian justice, because the Political Constitution of 1991, which you claim to defend so much, but which you do not read, clearly says that the vacant lands of the State are for the indigenous, peasant, Afro, Raizal and palenquero people without land, not for their hoarders.”

At the end of his video, he accused Miranda of protecting the interests of large landowners and hindering efforts to combat corruption in the rural sector. He stressed that rejecting agrarian jurisdiction implies, in his opinion, supporting irregular practices in land ownership and encouraged citizens to spread his message.

“You are not defending private property, congressman. You are defending landowners, usurpers, land grabbers. Opposing agrarian jurisdiction is supporting and facilitating agrarian corruption and violence. Share this video, so that the people learn the bad news of these false allies of progressivism”Arias stated in the footage.
