The U.S. Embassy in Havana on Monday approved applications for some nonimmigrant visas for Cubans on the island.services that were suspended since the administration of former President Donald Trump.
“Effective Monday, August 19, the U.S. Embassy in Havana is expanding visa services to include certain categories of temporary work visas and exchange programs.”the diplomatic headquarters said in a statement.
Tourist visas (B1) and business visas (B2) remain suspended for the time being.
Donald Trump’s government had cancelled consular services in 2017, citing a series of health incidents associated with the “Havana Syndrome” that affected its diplomats in 2016 and 2017, and decided to reduce the number of its employees in Cuba.
After four years, the services of the US consulate in Cuba resumed in May 2022 although only for immigrant visa procedures.
