United States, Brazil and Australia, countries with more airports in the world

Airports are key to the economy of a country. The transport of cargo and mobilization of passengers feed the industries and tourism of the nations of the world. For this reason, it is important to see what are the leading countries by number of air terminals. The United States leads the global ranking of countries with the highest number of airports, according to a visual capitalist analysis. With more than 13,000 terminals, it exceeds Brazil, Australia and Mexico, with 5,297, 2,257 and 1,580 airports, respectively.

The report emphasizes that the presence of airports not only reflects the transport infrastructure, but also internal connectivity and air traffic management capacity. In the ranking are also Canada (1,459); France (1,218); United Kingdom (1,059); Russia (905); Germany (840); Argentina (764); Colombia (661).

The report also indicates that the number of airports does not always translate into greater passenger flow or operational efficiencyfactors that depend on the geographical distribution and the size of the facilities.

Among the countries with the lowest number of airports are small or lower population density nations, where air connectivity is more concentrated in few facilities. The airport infrastructure adapts to the demographic and economic needs of each country.

America and Asia concentrate most of the world’s airports, reflecting the growth of air transport and the importance of international trade in these regions. On the contrary, regions such as Oceania and Africa have less number of airports, although some countries have developed strategic hubs to improve regional and international connectivity.
