The authorities confirmed the capture of Iván Antonio Chaverra Montes, alias Cara Negra, and Fernando Vergara Palacios, alias Pechibola, in joint operations between Medellín and Ríonegro, Antioquia.
Both were accused of being key participants in the transfer of cocaine from northwest Colombia to the United States. The first of the arrests occurred at the José María Córdova international airport in Rionegro, where Iván Antonio Chaverra Montes, known as “Cara Negra”, was detained after arriving in the country from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, with a previous stop in El Salvador.

Reports indicate that he was the one who supplied drugs to “Cara Negra” and had connections in Central America. In addition, they highlighted their family connection: he is the brother of Bravo Vergara Palacios, extradited to the United States in 2024 from Costa Rica.
Both captured are wanted by the Court of the Eastern District of Texas, which accuses them of drug trafficking and conspiracy to commit a crime.
With these captures, according to the media, “there are 26 people captured for extradition purposes in Colombia during 2025 for investigations linked to transnational drug trafficking.”
The two men remained at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office while the judicial process progresses for their surrender to the United States authorities.
Throughout the process, security agencies identified “Cara Negra” and “Pechibola” as key figures in the international links that link cocaine production in Colombia with distribution structures in North America.
Alias Roy, known as the “invisible drug trafficker,” was captured in Montería after a joint operation between Colombian authorities and US agencies.
