Mexico experiences numerous earthquakes due to his geographic locationsince it is located in a region where several tectonic plates interact. Specifically, the country is located on the boundary of three large plates: the coconut platethe pacific plate and the North American platein addition to other smaller ones such as Caribbean plate and the Rivera plate.
Another important cause is the activity in tectonic faults within the continental territory. For example, in the center and south of the country, the interaction between different segments of the North American plate causes earthquakes in areas such as the San Andreas Faultin Baja Californiaand other active tectonic structures in the Valley of Mexico.
