According to the Panamanian media La Prensa, the Panama Canal reported a 27% increase in the passage of boats at the end of June, which corresponds to the accumulated of the last nine months, since October 2024, when the fiscal year for this interoceanic route officially began.
According to data released by the administration of the Panama Canal, 8,998 transits in total were registered in that period: 72.96% of them (6,565 crosses) were for the Panamax locks, while the Neopanamax or the expanded channel counted 2,433 transits, which represents 27.04%.
In comparison, between October 2023 and June 2024, an accumulated traffic of 7,104 vessels had been reached, with 5,060 steps by Panamax locks and 2,044 for the Neopanamax.
By type of ship, the porters led with 2,156 crosses until June of this year; followed by bulkiers with 1,633the chemiquers with 1,662 and the gasmers with 1,339 transits.
