He Ministry of National Security made official this Tuesday, through the resolution 1291/2025the creation of the “Crime Investigator for Professionals” Career for entry to the Argentine Federal Police (PFA)within the framework of an institutional reform process, promoted by Decree No. 383/2025 aimed at modernizing and updating the operation of the force.
The measure, which had been anticipated by Minister Patricia Bullrichwas published in the Official Gazette and is aimed at attracting university graduates in strategic disciplines, such as Engineering, Administration, Accounting, Technology and Systems, Criminalistics, Forensic Sciences, Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Exact Sciences, considered from the creation of the Graduate University Entry and Training Program. In parallel, a “University Diploma in Criminal Investigation” will be awarded.
According to the regulations, entry to this career will require a university degree or technical level in the indicated areas; have Argentine nationality; a maximum age of 40 years (with the possibility of exception) and certified professional and behavioral background, in addition to passing the psychophysical and technical evaluations determined by the Interinstitutional Selection Committee. “To the extent that the applicant meets the admissibility requirements provided for by current regulations, they will become part of the senior staff of the Institution,” the rule states. These will be registered “In Commission” as Sub-inspectors of the Security Ranking and “they will carry out the corresponding training course.”
As for the Committee, it will be “made up of Authorities from the Ministry of National Security, as well as Senior Officials of the Institution, in order to carry out a final exam of an exclusive nature to establish the suitability of the applicants.” “The right to use the uniform and weapons will only be conferred upon completion of this period and obtaining the respective appointment,” after having passed all the stages, for a period of 9 months, and obtaining the corresponding appointment, they will receive full powers.
The design of the “Crime Investigator for Professionals” Career responds to the mandate of updating the profile and hierarchy of senior management, adding professionals with highly specialized knowledge to the prevention and investigation of complex crime. In addition to university degrees, specific incentives and differential characteristics in training are provided to facilitate the institutional integration of these professionals into the senior ranks of the Argentine Federal Police. Bullrich launched the call through social networks, in which he asked: “Do you want to be a detective? We are looking for you”.
The standard creates in parallel a Hierarchy and Professionalization Program for Subalternsintended for said active personnel who accredit higher training in the disciplines detailed at the beginning and a verifiable track record in the areas of Drug Trafficking Investigations, Federal Investigations either Criminal Intelligence.
For both incorporation processes, the Interinstitutional Selection Committee will determine the annual quotathe priorities of professional profiles and the protocol guidelines specific income.
The Argentine Federal Police will be in charge of designing and approving the study programs and institutionally disseminating the opening of the new career and the special regime for juniors, through the official channels of the portfolio led by Patricia Bullrich.
In the middle of the year, the Government published the decree 383/2025which established a comprehensive reform of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) with the aim of adapting it to the current challenges in terms of security and organized crime. The measure redefined the role of the force, and will have as its main mission the prevention, detection and investigation of federal and complex crimes, with emphasis on the dismantling of criminal organizations.
The new statute provided for the organization of the force in two main areas: the Federal Department of Investigation (DFI) and the Federal Department of Coordination (DFC). In this way, the PFA abandons the local security scheme in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, transferred to Buenos Aires authorities since 2016.
Among the key innovations, a annual cap for the entry of non-commissioned officerswhich will not be able to exceed the value of 2025 and will be progressively reduced, orienting the structure towards intelligence work and criminal investigation. The economic resources saved by the new quota will be allocated to a Modernization Program of the force, for the incorporation of technology, equipment and innovative processes.
