The Cali authorities achieved a significant blow against the illegal production of alcoholic beverages by dismantling a clandestine factory in the Alfonso López neighborhood, where nearly a thousand bottles of adulterated liquor were produced per month.

In the operation, The Metropolitan Police of Santiago de Cali arrested 13 people and seized 1,900 bottles ready for distributionalong with an arsenal of elements used in the manufacture and marketing of this illicit product.

According to the known information, the Police intervention was carried out in a house in Comuna Seven, used as a still for the processing of artisanal alcohol without any type of health control.

Based on what was revealed by the Metropolitan Police of Santiago de Cali, in addition to the bottles, a firearm, a supplier, two communication radios, two ballistic vests and various supplies such as caps, labels, filters, containers and hoses were seized, all used in the packaging and distillation of the adulterated liquor.

Jairo García, Secretary of Security and Justice of Cali, explained that the authorities intensify controls on the eve of the Christmas season to prevent the circulation of dangerous products.

“This is a strategic result, thirteen people have been captured for the crimes of illegal possession of firearms, for the manufacture of adulterated liquor that additionally affects the health of Cali residents, but that generate illegal income for these illegal groups,” García told the press.

The commander in charge of the Cali Metropolitan Police, Lieutenant Colonel Javier Alejandro Martín, explained that The factory generated profits close to $100 million per month.

“Intelligence, Criminal Investigation and the Alfonso López Police achieved this important result in the city,” commented Martín, highlighting the coordination between the different police units.

It is necessary to mention that, in the development of the Triple A strategy for life, the Cali Metropolitan Police has made 41 arrests for different crimes, seized seven firearms in several communes, recovered 18 motorcycles and seized more than 10,000 doses of narcotics so far in 2025.

These results, according to authorities, are part of a comprehensive effort to combat crime and protect public health.

The authorities recalled that clandestine liquor factories do not comply with minimum health conditions for the production of products intended for human consumption, which represents a serious risk for the population.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of a Guarantee Control Judge for the crimes of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition, corruption of food, medical products or prophylactic material and reception.

The Secretary of Security and Justice reiterated the call to citizens to take extreme precautions when purchasing alcoholic beverages and announced the continuity of joint operations with the Ministry of Mobility, as well as targeted actions against the illegal possession of weapons and the sale of adulterated liquor during the holiday season.

“We ask Cali residents to be extremely careful when purchasing alcoholic beverages. We are also going to continue carrying out joint controls with the Secretary of Mobility and we are going to continue developing actions against firearms, alcoholic beverages, and of course a lot of presence during the Christmas season,” García insisted.

The Cali Metropolitan Police urged the community to report any activity related to the production or distribution of adulterated liquor, making available the anti-crime line 3213945156, the emergency line 123 and number 156 of the Network of Cooperators, with the guarantee of absolute confidentiality.
