The Prosecutor’s Office announced an investigation into social media accounts that spread false information about the attack on Miguel Uribe Turbay

The Attorney General’s Office began an investigation into 104 publications on social networks that, between June 7 and July 6, 2025, spread the idea that the attack and subsequent murder of senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was a montage.

This process, known for The Time through the criminal news dated October 14, responds to a complaint for alleged crime of slander presented by Víctor Mosquera, lawyer for the family of the Democratic Center congressman.

The file compiles each publication, identifying the user, the date and the corresponding link, with the aim of determining possible criminal liability and tracking the IP connection of those who made these comments. The tone of the messages, attached to the complaint, oscillates between distrust and direct accusation.

Among them are statements such as: “#migueluribe was equally or better staged and acted than the attack on Trump. In two weeks it will magically rise and in a month he will already be giving hate speeches towards the middle and lower class”; or statements such as: “All this self-attack on @MiguelUribeT is a filthy setup by the corrupt Colombian right; they are so desperate to return to presidential power that they don’t care what kind of tricks they have to do. Here the delicate thing is, the stupid people who give credibility to this.”

Lawyer Mosquera highlighted in the aforementioned media that the level of organization of some accounts, mostly identified as digital warehouses, which had “so many organized pieces about the attack: photos, videos and even samples of the alleged rubber bullets with which he would have been hit” is striking. Therefore, it requests that it be investigated whether there was a coordinated strategy on social networks to hinder the criminal investigation against those materially responsible for the crime.

Meanwhile, the prosecution continues with the judicial process against the seven detained for the so-called “assassination”, among them, alias Tianz, a minor who was already sentenced to seven years in prison in a specialized care center for attempted aggravated homicide. This young man was not charged with homicide, despite the senator’s death months after the attack, because he had previously accepted charges for the first crime. Within the framework of the Criminal Responsibility System for Adolescents, the punitive difference between attempted homicide and completed homicide is minimal.

The formal accusation against Katerine Andrea Martínez Martínez, known as alias Gabriela, marks a new chapter in the investigation into the murder of senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay. The Attorney General’s Office presented the indictment two months after the attack that ended the life of the legislator, who remained in critical condition for several weeks after being shot in a park in the Modelo neighborhood, in western Bogotá..

According to the investigation, Martínez would have played a central role in the logistics of the crime. Prosecutors maintain that the young woman picked up a Glock-type pistol, modified to increase its lethality, in the town of Suba. Later, he moved to the Modelia neighborhood, where he met with other alleged suspects. In that place, aboard a vehicle, he handed the weapon to Elder José Arteaga, alias Costeño, who in turn would have passed it on to the teenager who carried out the attack against Uribe Turbay.

The investigations established that, since January 2025, Martínez would be linked to a criminal organization dedicated to the retail sale of narcotics and the execution of selective homicides. The Prosecutor’s Office formally accuses her of aggravated homicide, manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms and aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime.
