An important blow against the FARC dissidents that operate in Valle del Cauca was perpetrated in the last hours on the roads of the department.

According to the official statement, three people were captured and 50 9 mm caliber cartridges, material alluding to the illegal armed group and a vehicle were seizedin the middle of an operation carried out by the National Police at kilometer 42+500 of the Villa Rica – Palmira road, El Bolo sector, jurisdiction of Palmira (Valle del Cauca), according to the institution.

The intervention took place during routine registration and control activities, when uniformed officers gave a stop signal to a vehicle.

During the inspection, the agents found 50 9 mm caliber cartridges, 12 banners with messages from the Manuel Cepeda Vargas Urban Front of the western bloc, Commander Jacobo Arenas of the FARC dissidents, 12 envelopes with FARC-EP logos, six letter-sized sheets with messages related to extortionate charges under the pretext “Tax for peace”, a notebook page with information considered criminal and four cell phones.

The vehicle was seized and its three occupants were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for the crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying ammunition.

Among those captured is alias Hans, designated by the Police as the leader of the urban structure of the Manuel Cepeda Vargas Front in Palmira and alleged person responsible for the installation of explosive cylinders on June 10 on the Cali-Palmira stretch.

According to the official report, “Hans” has a record of false vehicle registration, qualified and aggravated theft; qualified minor theft, conspiracy to commit a crime; manufacturing, trafficking or carrying firearms or ammunition; trafficking, manufacture or possession of narcotics; receipt and extortion of small amounts.

The authorities are investigating whether there is a relationship between those captured and the recent installation of an intimidating cylinder at kilometer 54, Atuncelas sector, on the Cali – Loboguerrero road.

The intervention was possible after intelligence work that made it possible to locate an important weapons depot of the illegal organization. In the procedure, The uniformed officers seized two rifles, ten rifle magazines, two IM-26 hand grenades, five tactical vests, five field backpacks, 5.56 and 7.62 caliber ammunition. All seized material remained in the custody of the Public Force.

The deputy commander of the Valle Police, Colonel Pedro Pablo Astaiza, emphasized the relevance of citizen collaboration for the success of the mission, since the information provided by the inhabitants of the area allowed the specialized teams to reach the warehouse without putting its integrity at risk.

Astaiza explained that, in the procedure, “two rifles, ten rifle magazines, two IM-26 hand grenades, five tactical vests, five field backpacks, 5.56 caliber ammunition and 7.62 caliber ammunition.”
