The Federal Reserve says that Jerome Powell, again, tested positive for covid-19

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell tested positive for covid-19 Thursday evening, a Federal Reserve spokesperson said in a statement.

“Chairman Powell tested positive for Covid-19 last night and is experiencing symptoms. Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, he will stay away from others and work at home,” the spokesperson said.

The Federal Reserve chief was scheduled to speak at the graduation ceremony at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington on Sunday. He will make those comments via prerecorded video, the Federal Reserve said.

Powell, 71, previously tested positive for Covid in January 2023. The next meeting of the Federal Reserve's policy-setting committee is scheduled for June 11-12.

In January of last year, Powell received the positive test on Wednesday and “is up to date with Covid-19 vaccinations and boosters,” the Fed said in a statement, adding that he is working remotely while isolating at home. .

The Covid-19 landscape is different than it was earlier in the pandemic: Most people have hybrid immunity from vaccines or infections, and antivirals are widely available for older adults and people with compromised immune systems.
