They are known as “bat wings“and they are sagging on the back of the arms, one of the most common aesthetic concerns after the age of 50. Although many people look for quick solutions to eliminate them, specialists insist that there is no miracle remedy to remove localized fat. However, there are exercises that, if practiced consistently, help tone the area and visibly improve its appearance.
Among the recommended exercises, one of them stands out for its effectiveness, simplicity and accessibility: the wall pushups. This exercise, often underestimated due to its apparent ease, is actually a very effective tool for working the triceps, the muscle located at the back of the arm and mainly responsible for that flaccidity that is popularly known as “bat wings.”
Unlike traditional floor push-ups, which require greater strength and body control, wall push-ups allow adapt the intensity at the level of each person, which makes them an ideal option for both beginners and those looking to resume exercise after a period of inactivity.
How to perform wall push-ups
The technique is simple, but no less important. To correctly perform wall push-ups, simply stand facing a wall, about an arm’s length away. The hands should rest on the surface at shoulder height, with a separation slightly greater than the width of the shoulders. From there, slowly bend the elbows, bringing the chest closer to the wall while keeping the body straight, avoiding arching the back or sticking out the buttocks. Subsequently, push yourself with your arms until you return to the starting position. The key is in control movement both on the way down and on the way up, avoiding doing it abruptly or impulsively.
One of the great attractions of this exercise is its versatility. It requires no equipment, can be done anywhere and allows for multiple variations to increase or decrease difficulty. For example, the further your feet are from the wall, the greater the load on your arms. You can also play with the tempo of the movement, performing slower repetitions to increase muscle tension, or even holding the position for a few seconds to intensify the effort.
Combine exercise with a healthy diet
It is important to note that, although strengthening the triceps contributes to improving the appearance of the arm, reducing flaccidity is also related to the decrease in fat percentage bodily. Therefore, a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle habits (such as sleeping well, staying hydrated and avoiding a sedentary lifestyle) are key factors to enhance results.
In addition to their aesthetic benefits, wall push-ups have a positive impact on the body’s functionality. Strengthen arms and shoulders makes it easier to perform everyday tasks such as lifting objects, pushing doors or even maintaining good posture in front of the computer. In older people, this type of exercise can be especially useful to preserve autonomy and prevent falls or injuries.
