The TVE reporter Laura Samperio suffered firsthand the devastating consequences of the storm Kirk, which has been hitting the peninsula in recent hours. In a live connection for La 1’s ‘Telediario’, the journalist had to face strong gusts of wind while doing his job. Criticism for this was abundant, calling it unnecessary to make any worker go through that.
“We are live in Cantabria because the wind gusts there have exceeded 200km/h,” said presenter Alejandra Herranz as she gave way to the live connection with the reporter. “Since yesterday, 160 incidents have been recorded and up to 6 flights have been suspended,” said Laura Samperio while dealing with the impressive force of the wind.
The reaction and outrage on social networks was immediate: “How crazy it is to send someone to the eye of a hurricane to talk about it. “It puts the reporter and the camera operator at risk, it is unnecessary”said a cameraman on Twitter. Journalist Marc Mata asked if that was worth it: “Comrades, is it necessary to put a reporter at risk to do a live show like this? It’s worth it?”.
Without a doubt, it was a chilling connection that served to highlight the harsh conditions that many journalists face every day in the course of their work, and that sparked criticism from many colleagues.
