The Government announced on Wednesday that it will privatize the Belgrano Cargas railway, one of the main means of internal transportation of grains and raw materials in Argentina,one of the largest agricultural powers in the world.
The company, which is loss-making, operates 7,600 kilometers of roads that will be concessioned to private firms, according to a press release from the ultraliberal Government of Javier Milei.
“Today we began the privatization process of the state company Belgrano Cargas,” said Diego Chaher at a press conference, head of the Public Company Transformation Agency.
“Its privatization aims to make rail freight transport more efficient, promote investment in the sector and introduce market logic to the railway sector”clarified the official statement.
Argentina is one of the largest global suppliers of soybeans, corn, wheat and their derivatives, a portion of which is transported to the Rosari agro-export hub.or through Belgrano Cargas.
