Texcoco – La Paz Light Train: this is how the project to connect Edomex with Line A of the CDMX Metro progresses

One of the projects that the Ministry of Mobility of the State of Mexico (Semov) is about to start is the Light Train Texcoco – La Pazthis route will become the second line of this type of rail transport in Mexico City, the notable thing about the work is that it will connect with the State of Mexico.

The authorities claim that the service of Light Rail connect with the operation of the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC), will link the service of the Line A at the station Peace. It was in July 2025 when the Mexican authorities shared official information about the tender for the mobility project.

In recent days, the authorities released the document ELECTRIC MOBILITY STRATEGY OF THE STATE OF MEXICO (EMEEM) which describes details of the progress of planning for the construction of the Texcoco Light Train.

Through social networks, the municipal president of Chicoloapan, Javier Mendozaexplained that he held a meeting with Semov personnel to clear the roads through which this public transport route will pass.

“This Friday we start the day with the Peace Roundtable in its Mobility and Contingencyin coordination with the three levels of government. We advance in the release of tracks for the construction of the La Paz – Texcoco Light Train and mobility projects on the Piedras Negras bridge. “We continue working for safe and efficient mobility!” he stated.

On the other hand, the document shared by Semov details that engineering studies, as well as supply-demand and cost-benefit, are currently continuing; this stage is expected to conclude in December 2025. According to the authorities, they projected that the project would take around two years to complete and conclude, so in 2027 the work would be completed.

Progress in public transportation infrastructure in the State of Mexico takes on new momentum with the confirmation of the construction of a Light Rail that will unite Texcoco and La Pazintegrating the network with the Line A of the Mexico City Metro.

This project, presented as part of the Comprehensive Program for the East of the State of Mexico, was detailed by the Edomex Mobility Secretariat (Semov Edomex)which has announced the first formal steps for its implementation. The publication of the national tender, identified with the number LP-SITRAMYTEM-GIDEM-11-2025marks the beginning of the process to materialize the Light Train Texcoco – La Paz.

He Mass Transportation System and Cable Car of the State of Mexico (SITRAMyTEM) has been in charge of disseminating the details of this first stage, which will focus on the technical and feasibility studies necessary for the work. The central objective of this new transportation system is to benefit the inhabitants of Texcoco, Chicoloapan, Chimalhuacán and La Pazmunicipalities that will be favored by a direct connection with Line A of the CDMX Metro.

According to the tender published by the Mexican authorities, the project called “Supply and demand studies, Basic Engineering and Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Texcoco – La Paz Light Train” contemplates that the first phase, corresponding to the analysis of the area through which the train will circulate, begins this year.

SITRAMyTEM has specified that on August 1, 2025, the supply and demand studies will begin, as well as the preparation of the conceptual engineering and the cost-benefit analysis of the work. This stage will last four monthsextending to the December 31, 2025. At the end of this period, it is expected that in 2026 can start the first civil works and the acquisition of materials necessary for the construction of the train. The investment destined for the studies of the Light Train Texcoco – La Paz amounts to six million pesos (MXN $6,000,000)as specified by the authorities responsible for the project.
