Madrid, April 29 (EFE).- Spanish technology centers contribute more than 7.7 billion euros to the Spanish GDP and some 127,000 jobs, according to data from the Spanish Federation of Technology Centers (Fedit), which has celebrated how they have consolidated themselves as places where applied research is transformed into wealth.
The Fedit has today presented a study on the value and economic impact of technology centers, which has been prepared by the Valencian Institute of Economic Research coinciding with the thirtieth anniversary of this organization, a work that reveals that the activity carried out in these centers contributes some 4,000 million euros to the public coffers.
“The data are conclusive: investing in Technology Centers is not an expense, it is one of the most profitable public and private investments for the Spanish economy,” said the president of Fedit, Laura Olcina, during the presentation of the study to the media, and assessed that they are one of the most effective innovation infrastructures in the Spanish productive system.
Companies that collaborate with technology centers are more profitable, more productive, more solvent, less indebted and larger than those that do not, according to this study, which also indicates that for every euro invested in these centers they generate 11 euros of GDP and for every million euros of spending, 181 jobs are created.
“If Spain wants to advance in reindustrialization, technological autonomy and productivity, Technology Centers must be recognized and reinforced as the country’s strategic infrastructure,” stressed the president of Fedit, and stressed that the study data provide an empirical basis to position these Technology Centers as key actors in applied innovation, quality employment and sustainable economic growth.
The Federation is made up of 59 members (55 Technology Centers and 4 autonomous groups) that are distributed throughout the national geography, with a workforce that exceeds 10,800 people who provide service to 29,000 companies annually. EFE
