Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried will be the protagonists of the adaptation to cinema from ‘The Housemaid‘, directed by director Paul Feig and scripted by Rebecca Sonnenshine based on the bestseller by Freida McFadden.

Todd Lieberman (‘The Muppents’) will produce the project through Hidden Pictures, while Sweeney, McFadden and Alex Young (‘A Good Day to Die Hard’) will executive produce the psychological thriller.

The story will follow the life of Millie (Sweeney), a woman looking for a new start in her life by starting out as a maid in the house of Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew, a wealthy, upper-class couple, from whom she tries to hide her dark past. Soon, the woman will discover that the secrets the family keeps are more dangerous than her own and that her own life is in danger.

Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina: Both are mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters that don’t give everything away right away,” Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement to Deadline.

The novel by McFadden has been on The New York Times bestseller list and from Amazon for 98 weeks and counting.

Sweeney achieved international recognition thanks to his work in the HBO series ‘Euphoria’, and since then he has starred in films such as ‘Immaculate’ and ‘Anyone but You’.
