The suspension of almost all urban transport in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán continues this Friday, after the Automotive Tram Union (UTA) confirmed the continuity of the strike, which began yesterday, and affects 13 of the 14 bus lines in the provincial capital.
The measure, which leaves most users without service, responds to the decision of the Association of Automotive Transport Businessmen of Tucumán (AETAT) to suspend 150 driverswhich has generated a strong union conflict and keeps thousands of passengers in suspense.
The secretary general of the UTA TucumánCésar González, explained that the union assembly decided to hold the strike from midnight on Friday and anticipated that during the afternoon they will evaluate the steps to follow for the weekend.
González warned the media Find out News that, if a solution is not found, They could deepen the measures starting Monday. The union leader stressed that the suspensions ordered by AETAT affect almost a 40% of assets of the workers, which aggravates the economic situation of the drivers and their families.
The strike, which extends to all urban lines except the Line 8 -the only one that did not register suspensions-, is part of a context of historical tensions between the companies that provide the service and the capital’s mayor over the operation of the urban transportation system.
Against the background of the conflict, AETAT proposed the implementation of a payment system “per kilometer traveled”, inspired by the current model in the province of Salta, and clarified that this modality would not imply an immediate increase in rates for users.
