Storms return to AMBA: the SMN issued a yellow alert for eight provinces

He Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) is going through a week marked by the sudden change in weather conditions. After a Monday with temperatures close to 30 degrees and a mostly clear sky, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicts that an unstable day is ahead, with the reappearance of showers and isolated storms. For the night, they issued a yellow alert for storms, which affects about eight provinces.

For this Tuesdaythe SMN anticipates an increase in cloudiness during the afternoon and the arrival of precipitation that could intensify towards the night. The official body reports that the chances of rain begin at 10% during the afternoon and climb up to 70% at night. Added to this are gusts of wind from the east that could reach between 42 and 59 kilometers per hour. Temperatures will range between 18 and 27 degrees, which will generate a warm and unstable environment.

He SMN alert mapissued on Monday afternoon, shows that the entire province of Buenos Aires, like the City, is under yellow alertwhich implies the possibility of meteorological phenomena that may have an impact on daily activities and circulation.

According to official information, the bad weather will be temporary. A rebound in conditions is expected on Wednesday, with partly cloudy skies in the early morning and somewhat cloudy for the rest of the day. No rain or storms are expected. Temperatures will remain between 14 and 26 degrees, accompanied by winds from the east. The SMN extended forecast does not show new precipitation over the next few days.

The phenomenon also affects the provinces of Between Ríos, Santa Fe, Córdoba, San Luis, La Pampa and Río Negro. In these cases it is recommended:

  • Don’t take out the trash. Remove objects that prevent water from draining.
  • Avoid outdoor activities.
  • Do not take shelter near trees and power poles that may fall.
  • To minimize the risk of being struck by lightning, do not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools.
  • Be alert to the possible fall of hail.
  • Get informed from the authorities. Always have an emergency backpack ready with a flashlight, radio, documents and telephone.

Thursday, meanwhile, is projected as a day with completely clear skies, with no chance of rain and with temperatures that will vary between 15 and 26 degrees. The winds will be from the west and then rotate to the east, maintaining stable conditions.

Friday is expected to have somewhat cloudy skies in the early morning and partly cloudy during the afternoon and evening. According to the SMN forecast, the thermal marks will move between 16 and 30 degrees, in what would be the hottest day up to that point of the week.

Towards Saturday, the situation would change again. The specialized site Meteored warns that a new heat peakwith temperatures that could exceed 32 degrees during the afternoon. At the same time, a progressive increase in cloudiness will begin, which indicates a new deterioration towards the night. The entry of another cold front is expected that could leave isolated rainfall in the early hours of Sunday, in addition to a sudden change in wind direction, which would blow from the south with gusts.

The meteorological portal maintains that this new frontal system will mark the end of the cycle of high temperatures and will give way to a following week with lower values, although without extreme decrease. For Monday, projections indicate marks that would be between 12 and 21 degrees, with variable cloudiness and some residual instability.

In parallel, the SMN remembers that these sudden changes in climatic conditions can be framed within what it calls extreme temperature eventsthat is, periods where the maximum and minimum temperature values may represent a risk to people’s health.

This categorization arises from interdisciplinary studies carried out in Argentina, which identified thresholds from which the levels of morbidity and mortality increase in the population.

The return of rain to the region will be brief but intense. The focus will be mainly on Tuesday afternoon and evening, when the highest chances of precipitation will be concentrated. Meanwhile, the heat will persist, although with variations that will respond to the advance of frontal systems over the center of the country.
