The government’s plan against the esplantation of identity and by SMS marks this Saturday a new milestone in its development, When he was fulfilled three months after his launch on March 7.
This Saturday, two of the most outstanding measures contained in this plan come into force, according to the application calendar collected in an order from the Ministry of Digital Transformation that published the BOE on February 15.
On the one hand, users will no longer be able to receive calls and SMS that are of international origin, but that simulate having left of a Spanish number to deceive the citizen, one of the most common practices in the attempts of telephone fraud.
Also, since this Saturday, commercial calls can no longer be made from mobile numberssince another important part of the scams occur when the citizen receives calls from national mobiles that has no stored on his agenda, so he cannot identify the calling.
In addition, since this Saturday, commercial calls can be made with geographical numbering, numbering attributed specifically for commercial communications, or from numbers 800 and 900. In this way, the user can identify more clearly when it is a commercial call. The 800 and 900 have ceased to be restricted exclusively to the reception of calls, also allowing them to broadcast them.
The last measure of the plan that will enter into force is the creation of an official database with the alphanumeric codes used by companies and public administrations as identifiers in SMS. This measure, due to its technical complexity, will not apply until after 15 months from the publication of the Ministerial Order, according to Servimedia.
This database, which will be managed by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), will allow registering and verifying these identifiers. This will guarantee the authenticity of communications, the identity of legitimate entities will be protected and the detection and blocking of supplant attempts will be facilitated.
Since last March 7, operators have under the plan the obligation to block numbers that do not correspond to any user or service. Since then, they are blocking an average of 235,600 calls and 10,000 SMS per day, with a total of 14 million calls canceled. Telefónica was advanced to the top date to launch this obligation by executing the blockade of these calls since the beginning of April, according to sources from this company.
