Spain once again appoints ambassador to Argentina, the Milei and Sánchez crisis ends

After five months of freezing, Spain decided to appoint a new ambassador to Argentina. The Iberian president, Pedro Sánchez, decided to send a new diplomatic representative to take charge of the headquarters in Buenos Aires.

His government, it is worth remembering, had called María Jesús Alonso Jiménez for consultation in May, who had been serving as ambassador in Buenos Aires since 2022. His departure from the country occurred in the midst of Sánchez’s escalation with Javier Milei within the framework of the president’s trips to Madrid.

In those days, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, announced that the ambassador would not return to Argentina after calling her for consultation, after Milei did not apologize for his strong statements against the wife of the president of the European country, Begoña Gómez, at the far-right summit “Europa Viva 24 in Madrid”.

In that meeting, Milei described Gómez as “corrupt”, without mentioning her. Sánchez’s wife is investigated in Spain for alleged corruption and influence peddling.

Foreign Minister Diana Mondino celebrated the announcement that once again restores the full diplomatic link between both countries. “Welcome back Ambassador,” he posted on his account on that social network.
