President Gustavo Petro spoke out after learning of the irrevocable resignation that Laura Gallego presented to her title of Miss Antioquia before the Organization of the National Beauty Contest. The beauty queen stepped aside due to multiple criticisms that arose against her for having incited violence in some interviews she did with presidential candidates.
“In the desert you have a gun with a bullet, they let (Gustavo)Petro and Daniel Quintero run. Who do you give the bullet to?“, was one of the questions that Gallego asked, for which he is now the target of accusations. In addition, he assured that the president should receive a “cachazo.”

The head of state rejected the beauty queen’s position and called her a violent person. Subsequently, Gallego Solís resigned, ensuring that he would not remain silent and that he preferred to make his opinion on Colombian politics known than to wear a crown, which would act as a “gag.”
In addition to this, he criticized the answers that Petro and Quintero gave to their questions in the interviews. “In recent days, my name has become a topic of national debate. My political positions have been pointed out as if thinking, giving opinions and defending principles were incompatible with being queen.. Even public attacks have been issued from figures such as Daniel Quintero and Gustavo Petro,” he stated in the resignation letter.
Given this, President Petro spoke out, appealing to the intelligence of the queen, lawyer and activist. She assured that her beauty is external and that she should cultivate her knowledge, just as she works to maintain her physical well-being.
“She was beautiful, but only on the outside; You have to have a brain and cultivate it a lot just like your body. To put it more bluntly, a judge asked me to recant. But it is a scientific truth. Beauty is not only of the body but of the soul, or the spirit, or the intelligence of the brain, which is pure energy, and must be clean,” he stated.
Like Petro, Quintero did not let the beauty queen’s assertions go and assured that Laura Gallego does not represent the Antioquia women who debate with arguments and ideas, even from the opposition.
“Colombia: this is not what the women of Antioquia are like”, he noted.
The retraction referred to by the head of state is related to a controversial statement about the clitoris and the brain of women, which he made during a televised Council of Ministers on September 17, 2025.
“A free woman does what she wants with her clitoris and her brain, and if she knows how to match it, she will be a great woman.. They say not to talk about that, so I talk about the man,” Petro said in the meeting with his ministerial cabinet.
Given these statements, citizen Tatiana Echavarría Arango filed a protection action in which she requested protection of her fundamental right to equality and non-discrimination, human dignity, free development of personality, political participation of women in decision-making positions in the state, among others.
This, considering that the president’s expression falls into the objectification and sexualization of women, relegating them to a “merely corporeal” role. In addition, he assured that it also affects the “formation of democratic principles in minors who witness that speech.” Consequently, The 66th Administrative Court of the Judicial Circuit of Bogotá ordered the president to retract and apologize publicly for his statements.within a period of five days from the notification of the order.
