More than one thousand of Cordobans have said goodbye to the year in the traditional San Silvestre Cordobesa, which was celebrated in their thirty-ninth edition in the popular neighborhood of Figueroa. The sense of humor, the festive spirit and the costumes of most of the participants gave the classic party air to an athletics race that closes the calendar on the local circuit in an original way.

The winners

Jose Gabriel Ruiz, from the Cordobés Athletics Club, was the first to cross the finish line. In second position he entered José Said Kiamouchifrom the Trotasierra de Hornachuelos Athletics club, with his teammate being third on the podium Alvaro Gonzalez. Fourth in the men’s classification was Carlos Barberofrom the Cordobés Athletics Club.



In women there was a surprise success. Carmen María Rodríguezfrom Cordoba living in Catalonia, repeated the triumph she achieved in 2016 and came in first, beating Laura Vazquezfrom the Cordobés Athletics Club, already Lisa Esquivelfrom Trotasierra.

Lots of people on the route

The runners could be encouraged from the side of the road by hundreds of fans who wanted to join the party. The queen test started at 4:00 p.m. on the 31st on Avenida del Mediterráneo, next to the Plaza de la Marina Española, the usual place for a test that has a route close to 10,000 meters. The athletes did two laps of a circuit that ran through Figueroa and the closest streets in the Noreña area.

The test is one of the longest in time on the local popular racing circuit, as it has been held since 1983.
