The end of an era has been consummated at the Spotify Camp Nou. The legendary Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has shaken social networks by officially announcing his departure from the FC Barcelona at the end of the current 2025/2026 season.
Through an emotional farewell letter published on his official Instagram account (@_rl9), the scorer put an end to a successful four-year cycle wearing the Blaugrana shirt.
“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it is time to move on. I leave with the feeling of having accomplished the mission“, confessed the 37-year-old striker in his publication, where he boasted of winning three league championships.
Likewise, he dedicated words of deep love to the Catalan fans: “I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my first days. Catalonia is my place on earth.” Lewandowski did not miss the opportunity to thank president Joan Laporta for allowing him to live what he described as “the most incredible chapter of my career”, closing his message with a fervent “Visca el Barça. Visca Catalunya.”

The tension reached its peak in the complementary part, specifically at minute 54, when after a review in the VAR, the central referee decreed a maximum penalty in favor of Poland for a shirt pull by Héctor Moreno on Lewandowski himself.
The scenario seemed ideal for the then Barcelona star striker to make his debut as a scorer in World Cups. With absolute coldness, he placed the ball on the penalty spot. In front of him stood Guillermo Ochoa, an archer who transforms and grows larger when listening to the national anthem in the greatest competitions on the planet.
The whistle blew. Lewandowski made his characteristic run with a short pause to try to fool the goalkeeper. However, “Memo” Ochoa masterfully held on to his line and, with a feline reaction, lay down on his left side to deflect the powerful mid-height shot executed by the Pole.
Stadium 974 erupted in a unison goal shout that celebrated the save as if it were its own score. The rebound was immediately cleared by the Mexican defensive line, consummating one of the most memorable and historic postcards of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
That extraordinary intervention of Ochoa kept the score tied 0-0depriving Lewandowski of victory and demonstrating that, against the best forwards of the time, the Mexican goalkeeper always had the necessary arguments to become a national hero.
