Residents of Poza Rica lost documents in floods and report that they do not want to register their homes

After the head of the Welfare Secretariat, Ariadna Montielreported a few days ago that all households in Poza Rica, Veracruz would be censused in order to identify material and structural damage to homes and businesses to channel economic support to the affected families, it was the same inhabitants who have denounced that the nation’s servants have refused to census their homes for lack of documents.

Team Infobae Mexico went on a tour of the most affected areas from Poza Rica, Veracruz, to witness the cleaning work that the Navy elements have been carrying out, as well as volunteers and residents of the same area.

According to one of the testimonies collected, national servants have not carried out searches of the affected houses because the inhabitants do not have the necessary papers, in some cases because the properties were “too small.”

“They didn’t want to register my husband’s house because they say he doesn’t have papers. I said, ‘How am I going to have papers?’ Everything was swept away by the flood. They want photos of the house. How am I going to have it? If all my things are gone, my cell phones are gone, my clothes are gone, we lost everything,” condemned one of those affected.

“They didn’t let me register back there. Because the house was small, and well (…) they want a photo of the house, they want papers,” they stated.

On the other hand, the inhabitants denounced that the censuses They were only taking place on the main avenues and not in all the streets, as had been initially indicated.

“They only pass by on the main streets and do not pay attention to the private ones. We have our entrance on that side. There is an alley and we pass there, but it is all full of garbage,” they stated.

On the other hand, they highlighted the help of the elements of the army and the Navy who have carried out cleaning tasks, as well as rescue and relocation of the victims, although they also mentioned that the first to provide help were people who came as volunteers, then the local residents and finally the security elements.

“People began to move, to bring us water, to bring us food, so that we didn’t lack anything. Diapers for the baby, food for the baby, food for us, clothes. Thank God, they did support us. Later, help from the Government arrived,” they commented.

In addition, they mentioned that at least in the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood, in the aforementioned municipality, no human losses were recorded, but there were material losses.

“We are all, we are sad, right?, because everything in our lives was gone in a while. (…) the material, well now there is a problem, but thank God we are fine, and fortunately there were no losses of people,” they concluded.
