Around a hundred young people tried to set fire to the Government Palace in the center of Guadalajara, during a violent demonstration this Saturday afternoon.

Elements of the State Police prevented the protesters from entering the building; However, they vandalized at least two of the entrance doors to the Government Palace.

At the moment, it is unknown if this demonstration is related to the peaceful march that members of the Generation Z movement carried out in the morning, who protested against violence and demanded justice for the murder of the municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo.

Arrests reported

After the events, the Jalisco government reported that 47 people “alleged to have generated violence” were detained. Through a statement, he specified that among those detained are people from entities such as Mexico City, Guanajuato and Michoacán.

Jalisco authorities decided not to place fences or restrictive devices around the Government Palace and Casa Jalisco, “to fully respect their right to free expression.”

However, at the end of the demonstration there were riots and acts of vandalism that caused damage to the Government Palace, the Congress headquarters, Plaza de Armas and the entrances to line 3 of the light rail.

Canisters with gasoline, thinner, Molotov cocktails, metal bars, firecrackers and tear gas bombs that are not those used by the police forces were seized from the detainees. One of the detainees even had a firearm.
