The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said he would reduce the prices of prescribed medications by 59%, But he did not give more details about his plan to an event related to health at the White House on Monday.

“The prices of medications will be reduced by 59%,” Trump wrote in capital letters on their social networks while world pharmaceutical actions quoted down Monday morning. On Sunday, Trump said he would sign a decree to apply what is known as “more favored nation” or international reference prices.

The Commerce Department said in a couple of notifications that it had begun to investigate the impact on US national security of the US “Semiconductor imports and semiconductor manufacturing equipment”, as well as “pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical ingredients, including finished pharmaceutical products.”

The investigations, which began on April 1 and were ordered by virtue of section 232 of the Commercial Expansion Law, could be extended for months. According to the law, the Secretary of Commerce is expected to deliver the results of his investigation within 270 days, although Trump and other officials have indicated that these efforts could conclude more quickly.

The US president has long denouncing the foreign production of medicines and chips as a threat to national security and has threatened to impose tariffs on imports in an attempt to reactivate US manufacturing of those products. But tariffs could also cause stages in supply chains and increase costs for Americans.
