Pope Francis made a brief appearance in the Plaza de San Pedro On Sunday at the end of a Palm Sunday service, greeting the crowd from its wheelchair while continuing to recover from double pneumonia.
“Happy Palm Sunday, Happy Holy Week,” said the Pope, before returning once again to the interior of the Vatican, occasionally stopping to speak with the faithful, including a group of nuns.
Unlike last Sunday, when he made his first public appearance since he was discharged from the hospital three weeks ago, the Pope was not receiving oxygen through a small hose under his nose.
Francisco, 88, was discharged on March 23 after spending five weeks in treatment for a lung infection that, according to his doctor, was about to kill him.
His medical team has urged him to take two months of rest and the Pope initially remained out of view of the public after returning home. However, in a sign that he could be feeling stronger, he has made four unforeseen appearances this last week, and also briefly met with the British kings Carlos and Camila.
It is not yet known to what extent it will participate in the next Holy Week, the most important week of the ecclesiastical calendar, full of masses and ceremonies.
