The District Secretariat of Security, Justice and Coexistence presented a general balance of the results obtained in two recent operations that were carried out in two relevant commercial sectors of the city, in order to mitigate the expertise of illegal products, stolen, among others.
During the afternoon and night of Wednesday, July 9, a broad deployment of the Security Secretariats, General of the Mayor’s Office, the Bogotá Metropolitan Police and other district entities allowed to seize 23 military exclusive use garments, five cases for revolver, 29 white weapons, nine tasers, six pepper gas cylinders and more than a dozen hallucinogenic doses. These elements were hidden in points that simulated street sales in the vicinity of Santander Park.

The intervention included detailed inspections to carts, umbrellas, sacks and icopor refuses, where the seized objects were found. In addition, the authorities captured a person in flagrance for possession and sale of narcotics.
“All these objects today are under the custody of the competent authorities. We will not stop doing security operations in the corridor of the seventh race. With the citizen complaint and the intervention of the authorities we will ensure that this emblematic sector of the city is safer and more orderly,” said Cesar Restrepo, Secretary of Security.
Prior to this operation, The General Secretariat led sensitization days aimed at informal vendors, in which they were informed about the prohibition of marketing white and forceful weaponsaccording to Law 1801. These actions are part of a broader effort to transform public space into safe territories.
On the other hand, the district authorities also advanced initiatives such as planting plants next to the Botanical Garden, the recovery of platforms with the IDU and citizen awareness campaigns about the care of public space, in coordination with the Public Space Ombudsman and local mayors.
In parallel, The offensive against the theft of cell phones intensified with an operation in the 13th sector in the city center, in the city center. Both the District Secretariat of Security and the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá intervened 60 establishments dedicated to the purchase, sale and repair of mobile devices.
The result was The seizure of 27 cell phones – five reported by theft and 22 for illegal manipulation -, the capture of a citizen for reception and the suspension of two commercial establishments. In addition, more than 280 IMEI and the 16 electric skateboard system were verified.
“The fight against reception is a priority. It is not only about recovering stolen cell phones, but about attacking the market where they are shown and manipulated, affecting the safety of citizens and feeding organized crime,” said Restrepo, referring to the recent operational operations carried out in Bogotá. Under the guidelines of the Septi+strategy, the authorities intensified the actions to recover the road corridor of the seventh race and combat the theft of cell phones in the city.
The authorities reported that, so far this year, there has been a 24% reduction in cell phones in Bogotá. The Ministry of Security reiterated the call to citizens to denounce these crimes, stressing that citizen information is key to continuing to hit all stages of the criminal chain.
Regarding the recovery of stolen cell phones, the Bogotá Metropolitan Police recommended people to go to the immediate attention command (CAI) closer, where recovered devices remain for a limited time.
To claim a cell phone It is necessary to present the purchase invoice or a document that certifies its legal acquisition. Likewise, users were urged to record the IMEI number of their devices before their mobile operator, since this single 15 -digit code allows to identify, track and block a cell phone in case of loss or theft.
Finally, keep in mind that IMEI is not only a key tool for the safety of devices, it also facilitates their management and control. This unique number acts as a “fingerprint” of the cell phone, allowing it to identify it, authenticate its access to networks and verify if it is registered as stolen. The authorities have enabled an online platform where citizens can consult whether their device has been recovered.
