Peru already knows its rivals for the U19 Volleyball World Cup: the difficult ‘bicolor’ group in the women’s championship

2024 is already close to closing and in the Peruvian Volleyball Federation (FPV) They already have in mind the challenges that lie ahead in 2025. Without a doubt, one of the main events in which the country will participate will be the Women’s Under 19 World Cup which will take place in Osijek (Croatia) and Belgrade (Serbia), where the ‘bicolor’ will fight for glory in a complicated group.

This Wednesday, December 4, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) held the draw in Lausanne, Switzerland, for the first round of the youth competition and the name of Peru appeared in Group C. The national team will have a complicated test in the initial stage, as it will face tough rivals to qualify for the next phase.

In his series, the ‘bicolor’ will compete against none other than USAcurrent world champion of the category who is once again one of the main candidates for the title. Likewise, the team led by Professor Martín Escudero will have to face teams such as Türkiye, Bulgaria, Poland, and Spain.

In total, there will be 24 nations from the five Continental Confederations that will meet in Croatia and Serbia to fight for the title of the U19 Women’s Volleyball World Cup. Peru got its ticket to this important FIVB event, after finishing on the podium at the South American Championship of the category that was held in the city of Araguarí (Brazil) between August and September of this year.

It is worth mentioning that the World Cup tournament is scheduled to take place from July 3 to 13, 2025according to the official calendar of the International Federation. Martín Escudero and company will try to surprise and overcome the first stage to position themselves among the best in the competition.

To advance to the round of 16 of this World Cup event, the national team needs to be among the top four places in its group, so it has to prove to be better than -at least- two opponents to achieve its objective. Expectations are already growing and will continue to grow as time goes by.

Group B: Serbia, Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan)

Group C: United States, Türkiye, Bulgaria, Poland, Peru, Spain

Group D: Italy, Japan, China, Tunisia, Belgium, Chile

After the feat achieved in the U17 World Cup (sixth place), now the Peruvian U19 will try to replicate the success, after playing a positive role in the South American Championship months ago. The ‘bicolor’ reached the semifinals of the continental championship, losing in that round against none other than Argentina (1-3).

In the battle for third place and the last place awarded by the tournament, The Peruvian team was able to win 3-0 over its Chilean counterpart to celebrate in Araguarí with the ticket secured in your hands. In any case, the ‘red’ He was also able to qualify for the World Cup event through ranking.

Martín Escudero formed an interesting group with the U19, incorporating players who shone in the U17 World Cup such as Gianella Chanca, Camila Monge, Alexa Vega and Paola Moreano. Liana Torres and Ariana Vásquez – figures in that category – were also expected to be called up, but due to injuries they did not travel with their other teammates. Now they could have the opportunity to be considered by the coach for the championship that will be played in 2025.
