For its part, from Tehran, the Iranian regime announced that the process of preparing a 14-point framework agreement with Washington is in its “final stage”, although substantial differences persist between the parties.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaeihe detailed before the state channel IRIB: “Our intention was first to prepare a memorandum of understanding, a kind of framework agreement made up of 14 clauses”. According to Baqaei, once that document is closed, The details of the final agreement should be resolved within “a reasonable period of between 30 and 60 days”.
The spokesperson acknowledged that there is a tendency towards rapprochement with Washington, but warned: “It does not necessarily mean that Iran and the United States reach an agreement on the underlying issues”.
The statement exposes the fragility of the negotiation process, which since the April 8 ceasefire has only produced one formal round without result and a subsequent exchange of separate proposals. One of the central points of the draft is the end of the “naval blockade” that Tehran attributes to Washington.
Baqaei described this military presence in front of the Strait of Hormuz as “piracy against international navigation” and specified that the measure, in force since April 13, directly affects Iranian ports. The spokesperson stressed that lifting the blockade is among Iran’s priorities in the negotiation.
