Noboa announced that the price of diesel will drop between December 2025 and February 2026

The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, announced that the price of a gallon of diesel will have a reduction between December 2025 and February 2026 and It will go from US$2.80 to US$2.78 this year and, starting next year, it will be US$2.70.

This announcement was made shortly after the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, Conaie, reported the end of the national strike and the unblocking of roads in the province of Imbabura, after a month of demonstrations rejecting the fuel increase.

This announcement was made through his X account, in which he assured that this decrease seeks to provide stability to the productive sector and transportation, by allowing them to plan with greater certainty. “We are moving from speech to action, taking care of the economy of Ecuador and that of households”, he stated.

However, the president assured that the price of gas will not increase, a measure that seeks to mitigate citizens’ concerns after the elimination of the diesel subsidy. which had been in force for more than 50 years.

This decision by Noboa occurs in an international context of falling oil prices. The Ministry of Finance projects that Ecuadorian crude oil will close 2025 at US$60 per barrel, below the US$62 estimated at the beginning of the year, and which in 2026 could drop to US$53.50.
