Mexico will require a visa application for Peruvian nationals who wish to enter Mexican territory, according to an announcement published in the Official Gazette on Friday, amid a recent wave of migrants from the South American country.
The measure, issued por the Minister of the Interior of Mexico, It will be temporary and will come into force in 15 days, according to the Official Gazette.
In 2012, Mexico eliminated the previous visa requirement for Peruvians visiting the country for up to 180 days.. The measure allowed Peruvians to secure a place among the top 10 nationalities visiting Mexico.
Since then, the country has seen a “substantial” increase in the number of Peruvians who enter their territory “whose profile does not fit that of the authentic visitor or tourist and present inconsistencies in their documentation,” the ministry stated in the bulletin.
In recent years, Mexico has imposed visas on visitors of different nationalities, arguing that they were using its territory to surreptitiously enter the United States.
