The governments of Colombia and Brazil requested this Saturday the publication of the minutes breakdowns of the electoral process in Venezuela to ensure reliable verification of the results.
In a new joint statement, both countries emphasized that transparency in the publication of data is crucial to restoring the credibility of the electoral process.
The statement confirmed that Presidents Gustavo Petro of Colombia and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Brazil held talks in recent days to address the political situation in Venezuela.
Both leaders agreed that political normalization in Venezuela can only be achieved through peaceful dialogue. and democratic coexistence, and called on all parties to avoid acts of violence and repression.
Colombia and Brazil also took note of the recent decision of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela regarding the electoral process, but reiterated their request to the National Council Electoral Commission to publish the minutes broken down by voting table, in compliance with the spirit of transparency of the Barbados Agreements.
In addition, governments opposed unilateral sanctions, considering them contrary to international law. and harmful to the most vulnerable sectors of the population in the affected countries.
