A study by the firm Brand Finance and released by Visual Capitalist revealed that London is the city with the best reputation in the world in 2024, followed by New York and Paris. The ranking evaluated 100 global cities based on the perception of more than 15,000 people in 20 countries, measuring aspects such as institutional quality, economic environment, sustainability, security, cultural attraction and infrastructure. The score of each city is based on a scale of 100.
According to the report, London, New York and Paris lead the classification with a 2024 brand finance index score of 90.9, 89.9 and 87.8, respectively. They stand out for their international influence, connectivity, economic diversity and human capital.
The ranking of the 10 more cities with more reputation is completed by Paris (87.8); Tokyo (86.8); Dubai (86); Singapore (85.4); Los Angeles (85); Sydney (83.7); San Francisco (82.9); and Amsterdam (82,1).
In the case of Latin America, six cities entered the list: Mexico City, Santiago, Chile, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Bogotá. The latter was in the 87th position globally, with a score of 55.6 out of 100. According to the study, Bogotá showed a better performance in indicators such as businesses and investment (62) and ease of doing business (75).
The analysis included seven key items: work, social and economic life; natural environment; institutions; external reputation; lifestyle; services; and culture. Each was averaged to obtain an aggregate index that allows comparing the positioning of cities on a global scale.
The report also highlights that urban reputation is linked to the ability of cities to attract investment, tourism and talent, as well as their resilience against social and environmental challenges.
