PitchBook’s latest Venture Monitor report shows that during the first six months of the year, Latin America was the region with the fewest venture capital transactions (323) compared to North America (excluding Mexico), which totaled 6,971; Asia (4,596) and Europe (4,073); andIn the rest of the world, 810 operations were carried out.
In terms of amount, Latin America also had the lowest accumulated value from these operations, US$2 billion, and the same position is repeated in the other regions. The region that achieved the highest value was North America (US$95.00 million), then Asia with US$31.300 million, and third is Europe with US$36 billion, and last is the remaining countries with US$4.1 billion, also surpassing Latin America.
The number of venture capital operations during the first half of the year in Latin America is the lowest number in seven years. The report also indicates that during the first half of the years between 2023 and 2018, the number of venture capital agreements was over 350, while in 2017 there were only 258 agreements.
If the number of this type of transactions doubles in the second half of the year, the figure recorded since 2019 (726) would not be achieved either. which is in fact the lowest figure in recent years; in the year of the pandemic, 797 agreements were made in the year, in 2021 it increased to 1,343, In 2022 it reached 1,382 but last year it began to decline with 962 transactions.
