Latam invests US$7 million for an aeronautical maintenance base in Brazil

Latam Airlines Brazil announced this Wednesday the highest investment in the last 10 years in its maintenance base, with an amount of about US$7 million in a new specialized hangar for Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, better known as “Latam MRO” (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul).

The group’s maintenance and repair center located in São Carlos, in the interior of São Paulo, will begin construction on November 15 and It is planned to begin operations in September 2025.

This new establishment will allow the Chilean flag group to internalize more services, reducing costs and improving the availability of aircraft for air operations. Currently, the major maintenance of the Boeing 787 of the holding company led by Roberto Alvo It is carried out in Chile (a capacity that will be maintained) and in the international network of external suppliers that the company has.

“Latam reaffirms its commitment to operational efficiency and regional development with this investment in the São Carlos maintenance base. “The project, in addition to improving the services provided by the group, will contribute to strengthening the region as an aeronautical hub,” Enrique Parada, director of Engineering and Maintenance of the Latam group, highlighted in a statement.

The firm detailed that the project will generate 300 new jobs in São Carlosincluding assistants, warehousemen, aeronautical mechanics, planners and engineers.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with capacity for up to 300 passengers in the Latam configuration, is the most modern model in the wide-body fleet (double aisle, used mainly for long-haul international flights) from the Latam group, which currently has 37 units of the model and plans to operate a total of 52 by 2030.
