‘Jurado número 2’

‘Juror number 2’

I don’t understand this mania of wishing the end to elderly filmmakers, filmmakers who give us an excellent film every year in times as gray as those we live in for cinematographic art. This is the case of Woody Allen, with whom they are achieving it, or Clint Eastwood -the case that concerns us today- …and many others who have suffered from ageism in their careers, when the experience has reached the top. Since he broke into film direction back in the seventies, already being a star, and, above all, since in the nineties he presented White hunter, black heart, a perfect world and, of course, the twilight western No forgivenesshas not stopped giving us titles of great quality, a handful of memorable works among which are The Madison Bridges, Mystic River, Million dollar baby, Grand Turin…Until today, based on a notable script by the emerging Jonathan Abrams, with certain echoes of 12 men without mercy and false guiltyit is narrated how the protagonist, chosen member of a jury to decide the guilt of a man accused of murdering his girlfriendwill influence the rest of the jury. The performances, as always, are more than notable, with Toni Collette standing out as a prosecutor with political aspirations. The protagonist, with a good load of guilt, as inherited from Crime and Punishmentis directed by Nicholas Hoult, accompanied in the cast by JK Simmons, among others.

The intrigue in this judicial drama is served, little by little the viewer is introduced into the plot through which this master leads us, providing us with the necessary information at each moment to get to know the character, his past and the events that will lead him to pose a great problem of conscience, keeping us expectant before the difficult resolution of the case. This new production by Malpaso is highly recommended, filmed with the great effectiveness that characterizes its director, who does not beat around the bush and maintains a transparent narrative as a good heir to the classics.
