He President of Peru, José Jerímaintained that the fight against citizen insecurity, the guarantee of the next general election and the attraction of national and foreign investments represent the three fundamental priorities of his mandate. The statement took place during his intervention in the session of the National Agreementorganized in the Government Palace.

During his speech before representatives of various institutions and political parties, José Jerí assumed the complexity of the problem linked to insecurity. He warned that State efforts to contain the crime wave have proven insufficient. In his presentation, he pointed out that “the State has not worked in the best way” against the criminal advance that affects multiple regions of the country.

The president added that the holding of the general elections constitutes a priority issue on the institutional agenda, less than six months from the scheduled date. He stressed the need to provide “guarantees both for the conduct of the elections and for the security of all participants,” in a context where citizen trust is being tested by the security crisis.

In the economic section, Jeri focused his message on the importance of activating mechanisms to attract capital of both national and foreign origin, highlighting that “We have a golden opportunity for our country to truly be a power on the continent”. The president regretted that the lack of consensus and the presence of disparate positions have negative effects on economic development. “Always because we have different, diverse, dispersed, contradictory criteria and some that seek to generate chaos, we have not moved forward as we should,” he said.

The session in Government Palace of the National Agreement was developed with the presence of government authorities, representatives of political parties and members of civil society, in a situation marked by institutional challenges and demands for stability for the coming months.
