United Left presents itself as “the only real and transformative force of the left” in the province of Córdoba and begins the year with the political objective of strengthening itself as an organizationafter having joined confluence projects in Spain (Sumar), Andalusia (Por Andalucía) and Córdoba (We Make Córdoba). The provincial coordinator of IU in Córdoba, Sebastián Pérez, appeared this Wednesday to emphasize that IU will continue to be “an organization with its own voice, with its own strength, but always seeking spaces for unity” with other formations, in the same line as the federal coordinator spoke yesterday. In this line, Antonio Maíllo He was concerned about “the shrinking” of the space of the alternative left and asked the formations in the same orbit of IU to leave the “ridiculous fights” to build a proposal that “improves people’s lives.”

In this sense, Pérez has reported that throughout the year IU Córdoba will start a campaign neighborhood by neighborhood, town by town, to denounce the precariousness and problems of the people of Córdoba, with an eye already set on the municipal elections of 2027. “Our 128 councilors, together with our mayors, will continue to be the voice of hope, resistance and guarantee of well-being in every corner of the province,” he stressed.

Challenges of 2025

The provincial coordinator of IU in Córdoba, Sebastián Pérez, has also pointed out some of the challenges that this training has at the beginning of the year and the main problems of the province, among which he has pointed out employment, the lack of industrialization and “the systematic attack by the Andalusian Government” on public services essential: education, health and dependency. The fact that IU, integrated into Sumar, is present in the central Executive has not prevented Sebastián Pérez from also putting duties on Pedro Sánchez. Specifically, the provincial leader has called on the PSOE for “courage” in matters ofe housing and the improvement of working conditions. “Housing cannot continue to be an unattainable luxury for youth, and it is essential that the agreement signed by the Ministry of Labor, CCOO and UGT be fulfilled, for the reduction of the working day to 37.5 hours, a historic advance that will improve the lives of the working class,” he added.

Criticism of water management in the North

The IU provincial coordinator has been especially critical of water management in the North of the provincewhich he considers “disastrous.” In this sense, Pérez regrets that the actions carried out by the Córdoba Provincial Council have not been aimed at eradicating what is, in his opinion, the main problem in this matter: pollution. In addition, he has criticized the intention of the president of the provincial institution, Salvador Fuentes, to empty the La Colada reservoir without addressing the problem. “It is nonsense to spend millions on temporary infrastructure when what needs to be done is to tackle pollution at its roots,” he declared.

On a more international level, the IU coordinator has denounced the situation in Palestine, Syria and Ukraine and has expressed his concern about Donald Trump’s intentions.
