Through their X accounts, the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela, Gustavo Petro and Nicolás Maduro, congratulated their new Mexican counterpart Claudia Sheinbaum, who won the elections with between 58.3% and 60.7% of the votes, according to a quick count of samples carried out by the electoral referee, establishing herself as the first female president of the Latin American country.
“Mexico elected a progressive as the first president in its history. It is a triumph for the Mexican people and for their democracy. Congratulations to my friend Claudia Sheinbaum, together we will work to see Latin America united and progressing,” Petro said on her X account.

Another leader who also congratulated her was the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, “congratulations, Claudia Sheinbaum, on your election. For the first time in its history, Mexico will have a woman at the head of the Presidency. We will continue working to strengthen relations between Spain and Mexico”.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also congratulated her this Monday. “Congratulations on her historic election as the first female president of Mexico,” and she noted that that country and the EU “share deep historical, economic and cultural ties. I look forward to strengthening our bilateral relations under her leadership.”
