Duque’s Minister of Justice offered to take on the defense of Laura Gallego after Daniel Quintero’s complaint: he classified the former mayor as a “hypocrite”

The former mayor of Medellín Daniel Quintero Calle made public the complaint document that he sent to the Attorney General’s Office against Laura Gallego, who renounced the title of Miss Antioquia; and the presidential candidate Santiago Botero Jaramillo.

The origin of the controversy refers to a recording among those accused, widely disseminated, in which, in a mocking tone, Gallego made a hypothetical formulation to Botero Jaramillo: “Who do you give the bullet to?”, to which the candidate responded: “Daniel Quintero,” to which the beauty queen replied: “And a shot for Petro, at least.”

This fragment of the clip motivated Quintero to present the formal complaint, in which he requested the opening of an investigation, the conservation of the video as evidence, the identification of those responsible and the adoption of protection measures in his favor.

“The demonstrations carried out by Laura Gallego and Santiago Jaramillo They constitute an act of incitement to political violence, directly alluding to the responsibility of using a firearm against me and against President Gustavo Petro.“, reads the document written by Quintero and which escalated to the accusing body.

The former mayor stressed that the seriousness of the case increases by involving both the President of the Republic and a presidential candidate, which, in his opinion, puts democratic stability at risk.

Public knowledge of the document was not exempt from pronouncements against the former mayor of Medellín: Wilson Ruiz, who was Minister of Justice in the government of Iván Duque, stated that he was willing to take on the defense of Gallego, whose resignation left the department of Antioquia without a representative for the 2025 National Beauty Contest in Cartagena.

“One more time I make my law office available to defend Laura Gallego from this judicial escalation, which is the new form of struggle of the radical left“Ruiz Orejuela wrote in X, citing Quintero’s publication in which he attached the complaint.

Immediately afterwards, the former minister classified the former president as a hypocrite, accusing him of having enriched his family when he was mayor of the capital of Antioquia.

“Mr @QuinteroCalle, Don’t be a hypocrite: you and your family got rich while Medellín fell apart, and now you want to dictate what a beauty queen can or cannot say. He knows that it is a crime to steal a city’s resources,” Ruiz stated in his message.

The former mayor’s complaint also included the request for expert evidence and interviews to verify the authenticity of the material and the circumstances of its dissemination. Quintero maintains that the content represents a real threat to its integrity and disrupts the democratic process.

“These expressions, issued publicly by two figures with media visibility and political projection, They transcend the realm of personal opinion or humor and become a message of intolerance and hostility that normalizes violence as a form of political expression or ideological confrontation.”, Quintero noted in the complaint document.

The repercussion of the video not only had judicial consequences, but also impacted the public career of Gallego, who, after the controversy, chose to renounce his title and his participation in the national competition. Through her social networks, the former queen expressed her position regarding the complaint.

“Let’s see if the complaint that Daniel Quintero just made against the candidate Santiago Botero and me, Justice will give him more speed than the more than 500 complaints that he has for being corrupt“Gallego said in an Instagram story.

In another message, the former Miss Medellín added: “This is the fun part of being a lawyer. I believe in justice and I am not afraid of scourges like him (sic),” in direct response to Quintero.
