The District Mobility Secretariat reiterated the sanctions faced by drivers who use the Paid Parking Zones (ZPP) in Bogotá without making the corresponding payment, an infraction that can end in the installation of restraints, immobilization of the vehicle and fines exceeding $875,000.
The authorities recalled that these spaces authorized to park legally on public roads operate under an advance payment system and that failure to comply with the established conditions can generate additional financial penalties for cars and motorcycles.
According to information disclosed by the Ministry of Mobility and cited by Week MagazineBogotá already has more than 13,000 spaces enabled within the Paid Parking Zones distributed in different sectors of the city.
During recent years, the district administration has strengthened the Paid Parking Zone system as a strategy to recover public space and organize parking on public streets.
According to official figures, the system has enabled more than 13,000 spaces in 13 locations in Bogotá, in addition to recovering nearly 78 kilometers of road.
The Mobility Secretariat noted that the scheme has also accumulated more than nine million registered uses since its implementation.
The authorities recalled that the use of these areas requires advance payment for minimum fractions of 10 minutes.
Drivers can carry out the transaction through the ZPP Bogotá mobile application or through the ZIPI virtual assistant, enabled by the district administration.
The objective of the system is to allow citizens to park legally in authorized areas and avoid irregular parking that affects mobility in different sectors of the capital.
The Ministry of Mobility warned that when a driver uses a Paid Parking Zone without previously canceling the service, authorized personnel can verify the situation and impose immediate measures.
Among these actions is the installation of traps to prevent the movement of the vehicle.
As explained by the District, citizens have a limit of less than 10 minutes to make the payment before these types of sanctioning measures are adopted.
The authorities specified that the removal of the stocks implies an additional charge depending on the type of vehicle involved.
In the case of cars, the established value to remove the device is approximately $140,000.
For motorcycles, the fee amounts to about $105,000.
The district administration insisted that these measures seek to guarantee compliance with the rules and promote the proper use of parking spaces in the city.
The Ministry of Mobility also explained that if the driver does not make the corresponding payment within the established time, the vehicle may be immobilized.
In these cases, the vehicle is transferred by crane to yards authorized by the traffic authorities.
In addition to the cost related to yards and tow truck, the driver may receive a type C2 summons for poor parking.
According to the National Traffic Code, this violation is equivalent to a fine of close to $875,452.
The District has insisted that the Paid Parking Zones are part of a strategy to reduce improper parking and improve mobility in Bogotá.
The authorities indicated that the misuse of these spaces continues to be one of the frequent problems in different road corridors of the city.
For this reason, the Ministry of Mobility reiterated the call to drivers to correctly use official payment platforms and avoid financial penalties or the immobilization of their vehicles.
