Donald Trump’s team considers retaining funds for education in California

The US Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, said Tuesday that the Trump administration was considering retaining educational funds to California schoolsclaiming that State policies over transgender athletes violate federal law.

“I think that is part of what we find with the state of California, which strongly refuses to comply with the regulations of Title IX,” McMahon said In an event organized by Bloomberg News. “So that is one of the tools and other options that we have with California, and I think it is correct that we inform you that this is a risk that they run.”

The administration states that this position violates federal prohibitions on sexual discrimination.

California officials have defended their policy claiming that it is consistent with state law.

McMahon said previously that the administration was not pointing directly to individual schools.

“We are not putting a target on white or looking for goals,” he said. “We are analyzing the infractions and we want to make sure they address them.”

Long data tensions between California and the Trump administration have intensified in recent days. Trump ignored the State Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, to activate the National Guard and the US Marines in response to protests for migratory raids.
